Parent Information
We believe:
- That each child is unique and that each child has potential for development
- In the concept of the "whole child", recognizing that physical, intellectual, emotional and social development cannot really be divorced one from the other
- In the importance of each child as a living, growing, moving and feeling individual. Each child is a member of a family, a part of the kindergarten community and eventually the wider world
- That children are interactive, learning by discovery and discovering through play. Through their interactions with the people and the materials in their environment, they construct their own ways of thinking and their own ideas about the nature of reality
- That each child is worthy of respect and trust.
Our curriculum provides a strong inclusive play-based learning focus where children are encouraged to investigate, hypothesise, question and respond to curriculum choices. Our language rich program caters for all levels of understanding and encourages self resilience, social skills, literacy and numeracy. We have a site focus on children’s wellbeing and supporting them is social confidence, healthy lifestyles and problem solving.
The kindergarten supports strong family connections and home cultures, working closely with caregivers to build relationships in a caring environment. We welcome a diverse community celebrating rich cultures where children are encouraged to respect and learn about themselves and others.

Context Statement
St Helen's Park Kindergarten was established in 1958. Situated adjacent to the actual "St Helen's Park", it caters for families predominantly from Prospect, but also neighbouring suburbs.
We acknowledge children coming into our kindergarten will bring with them a variety of knowledge, abilities and experiences unique to their particular family, and believe it is our role to develop a preschool curriculum based on the needs and interests of the individual children in our care.
We believe:
- Each child is unique and will develop at his/her own in individual rate
- Each child will learn through play
- Each child is worthy of respect and trust
- Each staff member has an active role to play in the planning and implementation of a kindergarten program to enhance the development of individual children.
The Context Statement provides detailed information about our preschool.
